पूरा विश्व कोरोना महामारी से परेशान है। कोरोना वायरस के चलते अब तक लाखों अपनी जान गवां चुके हैं। वहीं दुनियां में करोड़ों लोग इस वायरस से प्रभावित हुए हैं। दुनिया भर में इस वायरस की वैक्सीन बनाने के प्रयास जारी हैं। वहीं भारत भी इसमें पीछे नहीं है।
आई सी एम आर तथा एन आई वी के संयुक्त प्रयास से हैदराबाद में स्थित भारत बायोटेक इंटरनेशनल लिमटेड के द्वारा विश्व की पहली सम्भावित स्वदेसी वैक्सीन तैयार है। जिसका नाम कोवैक्सीन है। इस वैक्सीन को डीसीजीआई ने क्लिनिकल ट्रायल की मंजूरी भी दे दी है।
इस वैक्सीन के प्रथम ट्रायल के लिए देश के 12 मेडिकल इंस्टीट्यूट को चुना गया है। सम्भवतः यह वैक्सीन कोरोना वायरस को रोकने में कारगर सिद्ध हो।
